September 1 through September 28, 2010
All About Nature
Everything in the September exhibit will showcase the beautiful, intricate and infinite variety nature has to offer.

Artists in September's show are:  Howard Garet, Ralph Springfield, Debbie Lass, Jean Allemeier Boot, and Sandy Meyer.  Howard creates pastel landscapes, Ralph Springfield carves birds and waterfowl, Debbie Lass paints watercolors of fish, animals, and nature,  Jean Boot prints etchings from nature, and Sandy paints watercolors of flowers from her garden and from the wild. This will be Howard's last month as a member of the Gallery Uptown!  He has been a member for 10 years and was instrumental, along with artists Steve Tagg and Annie Morgan, in moving the Gallery from it's location above The Bookman (then known as the Gallery Uptstairs) to it's "uptown" location on 2nd and Washington.

Debbie and Sandy use transparent watercolor to create their amazing paintings; both are members of the Michigan Water Color Society and Watercolor USA Honor Society. Howard works in pastels and oils to paint his evocative landscapes. Jean is  is Docent and Intern Program Coordinator at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.  She has a BFA degree in Drawing with a minor in Art History from Aquinas College.  Jean’s revelations of nature can be seen through her intimate etchings. Ralph Springfield is a retired member of Gallery Uptown whose life-sized birds are carved from blocks of wood, then painted in a most realistic manner.

The Third Thursday Talk - Looking at Art  will be held on September 16, at 7:00 pm. in the Walburg Gallery of the Gallery Uptown.  Have you ever made the statement, “I don’t know what’s good art, but I know what I like!”  This program will help you identify what you like and why. Sandy Meyer, director of Gallery Uptown and a docent for the Grand Rapids Art Museum, will take us on a walk through the exhibit and help us understand the meanings behind the works. All art is created from the same elements. These elements are speaking to us when we view a work of art. Understanding what the elements are will help us understand why we like a piece.

All About Nature  will be on exhibit in the Walburg Gallery (part of the Gallery Uptown) from Wednesday, September 1 through Tuesday, September 28.  The opening reception for the show will be on Friday, September 3.  Informative talks by the artists will begin at 7pm.  All are invited to attend.
