March -
"Seasons
on the Grand" - Fine Arts Show and Sale to benefit the Grand River
Greenway
"Seasons
on the Grand" exhibits artwork in all media depicting scenes of the
Grand River and the Grand River Greenway. The show is held in the
Walburg Gallery of the Gallery Uptown from February 27 through March 31
with an opening reception on Friday, March 2 from 5:30 to 8:00pm. Awards
will be announced beginning at 7pm.
The intent of the “Seasons on the Grand” show is to honor the Grand
River, including the north and south banks and parkways, as it flows
through Ottawa County. Let us express through Artist’s eyes the beauty
of the seasons; the glories of the skies, textures of the grasses and
ripples of the water. The show will display the blessings of this land
with paintings, weavings, pottery, photographs and sculptures, capturing
the wonders of our world as homage to our Grand River, which brings joy
to all inhabitants along the way.
February 27 through March 31

"Pen Dragons Calligraphy Guild - Group Show at
Gallery Uptown"
Calligraphers love lettering and artistic composition, but they also
love the written word. Being able to bring a text to life through the
calligraphic arts is what all lettering artists strive for.
Pen Dragons Calligraphy Guild members encompass a wide range of skills
from novice to professional. Our membership includes teachers,
historians, poets, watercolorists, banner and quilt makers, graphic
artists, book binders, paper makers, scrap bookers, rubber stampers and
print makers, all united by a common interest in handwritten
letterforms. We work on paper primarily, but also work on fabric, wood,
metal, stone, glass and ceramics, using tools that include hand cut
quills, brushes, steel and reed pens, pencils, markers, and even
computer scanners.
An invitation to submit work for this exhibit was extended to the entire
Pen Dragons Guild membership. The pieces chosen from those submissions
represent the range of styles from this diverse group of lettering
artists. Our hope is that viewers will enjoy the artistic value of the
pieces and also come away with an appreciation of lettering as an art
form.
