Winter Art Festival - 14th Juried Show
The show will be hung on January
31,
with the Opening Reception on Friday, February 4 from 4:30pm -
8:00pm. Awards will
be announced starting at 7pm.
The February show at the Gallery
Uptown will be artwork accepted for the “Winter Art Festival - 14th
annual juried art exhibit”. As in previous years, this show promises
to bring a gallery full of the best and most
interesting art in the area.
The “Winter Art Festival” was juried by Michael Martin, Head of
the Curatorial Department, Flint Institute of Arts in Flint,
Michigan. Michael Martin graduated from Michigan State University
with a BA in Art History. He also completed the Museum Studies
program. Michael has been on the staff of the Flint Institute of
Arts for over 10 years and is currently the Head of the Curatorial
Department, managing the permanent collection as well as temporary
exhibitions. He has curated numerous exhibitions from the permanent
collection of the FIA as well as exhibitions featuring works
borrowed from other collections and institutions. Michael has
traveled internationally with works from the FIA’s collections that
have been lent to prominent museums in Tokyo, Dublin, Florence and
Mexico City.

Catherine McClung, Mary Sundstrom, Robert Michmerhuizen, Skye
Gentle, Anne Morgan and Ryan Vanderley. Many more artists

Painting and Drawing Classes with Rob Michmerhuizen
Rob Michmerhuizen has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and for over 30
years has offered professional instruction in drawing and painting. Each
class meets weekly and is limited to five students. Study consists of
still life, landscape and figures in charcoal, graphite and acrylic
paints. Drawing supplies are furnished. The weekly rate is $20.00 per
student for each two hour lesson. Individual help in a pleasant,
informal atmosphere. Beginners are welcome. For further information call

Learn about files and formats, and what all those symbols on
your camera are! We will cover the basics of digital photography
and answer whatever questions you might have. The participants
guide this class, which is based on individual needs. Please
bring your camera, batteries and camera user manual.
Wednesday, February 9, 5:30 - 7:30 pm
Basic Digital Photography II
$20/$15 MMA member
Instructor: Elizabeth Reynders
This class will cover expand your creative photography skills.
Learn about shutter speeds, apertures, and what the camera can
do for you! We will cover depth of field, different outdoor
lighting conditions, and how to shoot successfully those photos
you may have been unable to capture in the past. Please bring
your camera, batteries, and camera user manual.

FEBRUARY SHOW AT
THE FIRE BARN GALLERY TO FEATURE LOCAL SCULPTOR STEVE KURTZ
During the month of February, The Fire Barn Gallery in Grand
Haven - corner of 5th Street and Columbus - will
be hosting a show of sculpture by local artist Steve Kurtz.
The show opens with a reception on Friday
night, February 4th, from 6 to 9 pm. One of his
sculptures, shown as a part of Grand Haven's Artwalk, is
still on display in front of The Fire Barn Gallery.
The show at The Fire Barn will be on display February 4th -
26th. Gallery hours are Wednesday and Saturday, 12 - 5 pm,

POSTCARD SALON
EXHIBITION - Thursday, January 27 - Thursday, February 3
Our popular Postcard Salon event returns for 2011. All postcards
will be on sale for $30 apiece at a sale on February 3,
5:30-8:00pm, making this an excellent time to add original
artworks to your personal collection. The artwork can be seen in
the Wiener Gallery starting Thursday, January 27.

HeartPrize Competition 2011
Artists are invited to bring their original art to the
Dreese Gallery in Spring Lake for a competition similar to
ArtPrize of Grand Rapids. January 18 through February 5:
Artists bring their art to the gallery. The cost for
entering the competition will be $30 per artist. Only one
piece of art for each artist. Voting and collection of can
foods will begin February 12 with an evening reception that
day from 6 to 8pm. All the can goods collected will be
delivered to Love INC at the completion of the competition. First Place: $300. Second Place: $100 gift certificate for framing at the
Dreese Gallery and Framing Third Place: $50 gift certificate for framing at the Dreese

Learn to weave with cotton fabric and handmade loopers cut from
recycled t-shirts to make rugs, bags, hot pads, coasters,
placemats, pillows, and more! Bring two old t-shirts in
contrasting colors to weave a project to take home. Looms will
be provided for classroom use.

Deadline for Online Photo Contest Extended to February 14
The contest entry deadline has been extended to February 14
to allow as many amateur and professional photographers to
submit photos for the 3rd annual photo contest, which is
co-sponsored by Todd and Brad Reed Photography.
For every $15, contestants may enter up to three separate images
and can enter as many images as they like in quantities of
three.
Winners of the photo contest will win gift certificates to Todd
and Brad Reed's Photography Gallery.
This year's winners will now be announced on Saturday,
February 19 at Jazz It Up, the Center's winter fundraiser.

INVITES ENTRANTS
The Arts Council of White Lake’s White River Gallery and Nuveen
Community Center for the Arts invite artists to submit entries
for the eleventh annual "Change of Seasons Juried Exhibition".
Entries will be received for consideration February 18, 19, and
20 at the Council’s two locations in downtown Montague. Accepted
works will be displayed from March 1 to April 3, 2011. A public
reception will be held March 5 from 1-3 P.M. with awards
presentation
and juror’s statement at 1:30 P.M.
Artists may request an entry form or more information by calling
(231) 894-ARTS(2787). All entries will be accepted February 18 from 10:30 a.m.
to 5:30 p.m.;
February 19, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and February 20, 10 a.m. to 12
p.m. at White River
