Artist: Lauri Blovits Friar

Artist’s Statement

lauri blovits friar I am committed to exploring color, line and subject dynamics whether it is through pastels, oils, or watercolors. My work has always had a consistent theme of fruit, flowers, and vessels. Landscapes are new territory but rich in their ability to evoke mood, memory, and dreams.

I try to maintain a receptivity to what is needed to be conveyed through each composition. Finding the best arrangement to convey the dialogue between objects through placement, color, and paint application is a passion of mine. Flowers can be blatantly sensual in their motive to seduce a passing romance. Bowls and vessels naturally show their need to be filled and used. Fruits offer enjoyment and satisfaction, and hold the potency of new life. Looking back over the years, the positioning of object scrutinized within a color field to reinforce tone of composition has been an intuitive, often stumbled upon development during creation.

green goddess by lauri blovits friar I have been fortunate to have received my training through my painter father, Larry Blovits. I received a formal education under him at Aquinas College, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting, but have also had the insider view to the studio and workings of artists through daily life and growing up within the artist’s world. red conversation by lauri blovits friar
