Artist’s Statement:
The familiar scenes and occurrences of everyday life provide an infinite source of inspiration for my paintings.
Living in a lakefront community combined with an active life full of family, friends and travel provide me with an
abundance of resource material. In painting, the challenge is to capture the essence of a particular moment.
Uniting line, light, edges, color and value create emotion in an image. Keeping strokes of color loose and
layered is important whether I am using oil paint, pastels or charcoal.
My intent while creating images is to illuminate relationships in the landscape and to beckon viewers to
rest and ponder the glory of nature. The joy in painting comes from taking the time to look deeper into the
layers of nature. Slowing down to meditate on nature and to allow these insights to flow through me has been
an incredible life lesson. Hopefully my impression of life will offer others a new and broader view of God’s world.
