Steve
Zawojski
Steve has earned many honors as a Ceramist and his work is
in collections across the country. He holds an MFA from New
York State College of Ceramics and Alfred University in New
York where he also was a Graduate Assistant. He has taught
ceramics at Washington University in St.Louis, Missouri,
Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont and at Grand Valley
State University in Allendale, Michigan. He is a member of
the National Council on Education of the Ceramic Arts.
Of his work he said, “…it is an attempt to organize
the visual and structural elements of functional vessels and
the subtle, often dramatic effects of the wood-fired kiln.”
He has been working in clay for more than 40 years and in
his present wood-fire mode for the past 30 years. His hand
built wood fire kiln is a hard brick structure with soft
brick and insulating mortar backup. The kiln fires in 9 to
17 hours.
